A holiday/picnic spot near Kolkata

NEW DIGHA

New Digha

With the help of the Zila Parishad many new picnic spots have been developed near the French colony of Chandannagar. Among these, one of the most familiar is New Digha. We can reach the spot by boarding an auto or a trekker from the Chandannagar station. It will take about ten minutes to reach there from the station. The entrance ticket costs Rs. 10 per person. There are 225 picnic spots and about 20 people can be accommodated in each spot. the fee for each spot is Rs. 25. Bungalows are available for rest during the picnic. Each room costs Rs. 150, but night staying is not allowed. Cooking utensils are also available here at a cheap rate. This place presents an exquisite scenery. The D.V.C canal flows through it. Also the greenery of this place attracts the attention of the people. For enjoyment many facilities are also available. People can do boating. SABUJDWIP
It is a perfect go away for picnics at the time of winter. Here Eucalyptus and fresh breeze from the River Ganga create this islet a charming one. You can avail boat to go to Sabujdwip. Other than this, there are swings and sea-saw for kids and an enormous floral garden. Boating services are available here.

One can avail Bandel local from Howrah and get down at Bandel. From there take the Katwa local train to go to Somrajbazar station. Take a boat from here to Sabuj Dwip. You can take the No. 8 route bus from Chinsura and get down at Korla to walk another 15 minutes and arrive at the river.

 

KMDA Park

Of all the picnic spots , probably the most popular one is KMDA Park which is situated close to the Chandannagar Station. It is only 10 minutes walking distance from the station. It has been built over a huge 33 acres of land and as much as 120 groups can enjoy their picnics at a time. The bushes, the beauty of the seasonal flowers and the greenery of this park casts for a long time in the mind of the people. Here the charges are also moderate. The charge for a picnic group of 40 persons is only Rs 200. Rooms are also for the visitors. The charge for A/C rooms for two persons is Rs 500. Non-A/C rooms are also available.It has a large seminar room- charge being Rs. 2000.
